Physical fitness is comprised of two concepts: general fitness (a state of health and well-being) and specific fitness (the ability to perform aspects of sports/occupations). Both are achieved through exercise, good nutrition and adequate rest.

Health is the general condition of a person in all aspects. It is also a level of functional and/or metabolic efficiency of an organism, often implicitly human. "The state of being free from illness or injury".

Wellness includes not only wealth and employment, but also an individual's environment, physical health, mental health, education, recreation/leisure time, and social belonging.

iRun Interviews at the Finish Line

Some footage that was shot by iRun Magazine at the finish line of the Ottawa Race Weekend

Two weeks after his goal race, Brock set yet another 10K personal best in Ottawa; the next day, Aleks ran her goal race. And we got it all on video!

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be part of the Ottawa Race Weekend through my involvement with Team in Training. I was the on-course coach for the Prairie Region (Edmonton, Calgary and Saskatoon).

9mins & 19secs

Photo of me running in the rainI’m going to cut to the chase here. I’m not going to go through any fanfare or hype. I’m not going to beat around the bush. I’ll just get right to the point of this post which is to tell you what my finishing time was at the Toronto Goodlife Fitness Half Marathon at 8:00am on May 15, 2011.

Yes, maybe… probably!

It’s Friday, May 13th (insert ubiquitous bad-luck joke here). The Toronto Marathon is on Sunday. I just flew in to The Big Smoke with as many of my worldly possessions as I could fit in two suitcases and am currently standing (the chairs are in a moving truck somewhere around Moose Jaw) in the kitchen of my new Toronto home. All things considered, I am pretty content… and yet…

All Day I Dream About... Shoes!

Adizero Boston, Tempo and Adios The shocking truth is that before this makeover I had never owned a pair of Adidas shoes *gasp*. It’s true! In fact, I had only ever owned 1 pair of Adidas warm-up pants and… that is all. Why? I don’t know. No particular reason, I just didn’t.

Stretching, rolling, getting healthyWell, ok. It might be time to face facts… I am injured. Not badly. Not badly at all. Nowhere near bad enough to pull out of the race or even take time off of training. No no, dear reader, fear not! I’m merely injured bad enough to have enlisted a chiropractor, a massage therapist and a physiotherapist all in one week.
